I consider myself a nature painter and lover of wild places. I am interested in the atmospheric quality and changes of mood that a particular setting evokes, whether it is a sunny day with bright colors or a more somber cloudy day. I want those who see my paintings to get the feeling of how wonderful and beautiful our world is. Most of my paintings are initially painted on sight and then further refined at home depending on the adjustments that I think are required. I find that the experience of painting directly from a given subject adds to the vitality of the painting that is hard to achieve any other way. I most often paint at locations near to my home which fortunately offer much diversity; forest, seacoast, hills, vineyards and beautiful local gardens. All capture my imagination as the light and mood change from season to season and even day to day.
